Hi there … thank you for visiting my page.

What began as a simple experiment of creative desire has morphed into something much bigger.  In May of 2016, I sat down and wrote my first haiku … nothing special … nothing powerful … three lines … 17 syllables … something about about a comparison of love and its connectivity to life.  What I noticed immediately, after putting pen to paper, was a smile brewing within … that smile spread across my face and entered into every fabric of my being … that smile stuck with me all day … that smile stuck with me all week … that smile stuck with me all month … so I kept on writing my daily haiku and I kept on smiling … it was that easy … it was that fun … it was that, “I found myself, I found my outlet moment.”

So, I made a pact with myself that I would write a haiku everyday, post the haiku on my Instagram and Facebook feed for friends, family and (fingers crossed) the world to see, to read, and to smile along with me, syllable by syllable, line by line, word by word and image by image.

Hopefully, as you peruse my page, you find a bit of yourself smiling alongside me.

This page will develop over time as more ideas are flushed out and developed … I hope you will join me on this journey and enjoy our ride together.

For those of you who would like a little more background, I was born in 1974 in Stockton, California … I lived most of my adolescent and teen years in a small California farming town where cherries and tomatoes and apples and walnuts were as abundant as the air we breathe … I went to CSU Sacramento where I earned both a BA and MA in English … I have been a teacher at the high school, junior college and university level for 21 years … I am a former Peace Corps Volunteer (Russia 2000-02), a wanderer (17 countries crossed off the bucket list) and a father of two young daughters … I’m an open book and I always answer any and all messages I receive … so if you enjoy what you are reading, if you have a question and perhaps, just perhaps, you or someone you know would like to publish my work, please drop me a line and say hello.

If you you like what you discover, please follow me on Instagram as I post a new, original haiku daily and I would love to hear your thoughts … I can be found at http://www.instagram.com/barronsudderth

Thanks for stopping in and allowing me to share a smile with you,

  1. More cowbell, Barron. Like how about a haiku about a cowbell — specifically a Swiss cowbell tolling for who knows whom on the alpine landscape surrounding Grindelwald or Zermatt. At night. Or perhaps a foggy morning. Chuss.

  2. Hi Barron,

You may or may not remember me, but I took a class you taught at Delta a while back. Just wanted to say I hope you’re doing well and I appreciate your photography! Also, thanks for all your help!

    Cheers!
